Approximately 32 acres of land lies in Abington. An unnamed stream flows thru the center of this parcel originating from upgradient wetlands located to the north of this property. This stream is joined by a series of small connecting streams.
The soils have usage limitations based upon USDA Soil Conservation Surveys and reflect the following 4 soils present.
AuA-Au Gres ScA-Scarboro DeA-Deerfield MeB-Merrimack
AuA-Au Gres soils covers a majority of this parcel.
USDA recommendations for usage .............(see SOILS) The hydrology indicates that water is at or near the surface a majority of the time. NO accurate hydrologic data has been generated as of this date. (9-1-07)
The property contains a large 2 story home that is structurally sound. This home was rented out by the Town of Abington for a period of time for the rental income until the Town evicted all the occupants because of insurance or perhaps political issues. Renovating this dwelling for habitation is a financial option.
There is a large barn of which a portion was built using POST and BEAM style construction. Portions of this barn are in need of major structural repairs due to recent neglect and the uses range from housing animals to work spaces.
The Griffin's Dairy Study Committee, authorized to be established by Town Meeting in 1998, submitted its final recommendations to the Board of Selectmen in 2004. NO action was ever taken on it. It recommended that a Board of Trustees be established to oversee the management of this property and manage it as a living park.
9 years have passed that the Town of Abington has ignored this property. Its time for the Town of Abington to take a responsible course of action. To let this property rot to disrepair is a DISGRACE.
